Benoit Assou-Ekotto is looking forward to the new season with the north Londoners
Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has challenged Spurs to get their Premier League season underway with a win against Newcastle United next weekend.
The 28-year-old Cameroon international was ever present for Spurs last season, and is raring to go for the new campaign.
“[Newcastle] is a difficult place to play but we all want to win the first game, it’s important to have a good start,” Assou-Ekotto told the club’s official website.
The left-back is currently with the rest of the squad in Spain preparing for their final pre-season friendly against Spanish side Valencia.
“It won’t be easy,” he said of the Valencia clash. “The Spanish teams love to keep the ball and press, so it won’t be easy to keep the ball against them.
“It will be hard but it will be a good game for us.”
Mousa Dembele says Tottenham’s complacency cost them Champions League qualification after Sunday’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League.
