Tottenham transfer news: Jermain Defoe could leave if he can’t force his way into the Spurs starting XI
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has admitted that a lack of playing time at White Hart Lane could lead to him leaving the club.
The striker has found himself behind Emmanuel Adebayor in the pecking order, with Harry Redknapp preferring to play one striker, with Rafael van der Vaart in support.
Defoe has scored 17 goals in all competitions for Spurs this season, with his goalscoring exploits earning him a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad.
It has however not been enough to secure a regular starting spot with Spurs.
“It’s a difficult one,” Defoe admitted to Talksport when asked about his commitment to the club.
“I’ve never said I want to leave the club, I’ve just said I want to play.
“As a forward you just want to get some sort of rhythm and a run in the team. That wasn’t the case towards the end of the season.
“I’m just going to see what happens. I’m going to concentrate on England and Euro 2012. The most important thing for me is scoring goals and that’s when I’m at my happiest.”
With the Premier League title already in Manchester United’s hands and the relegation issues also decided, the battle for European football is the only unanswered question ahead of Sunday’s final round of games.
