Tottenham transfer news: Ajax boss believes centre half will leave for the Premier League

Ajax boss Frank de Boer says the transfer of Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham is very close.

The Belgian centre half has been strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane for some time and the deal was expected to be concluded weeks ago.

However Ajax and Spurs first struggled to agree a fee, while the player and the Dutch giants are in dispute over his entitlement to a 15 per cent share of the 12million transfer.

"We're very close," De Boer said. "But if the deal is not done, Jan must start his training next week with us.

"I was in the same situation [when he left Ajax for Barcelona in 1999]. But, eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright."
