Emmanuel Adebayor says he has completed his mission at Tottenham by helping them back into the top four – and he believes that Spurs will continue to go from strength to strength.

Adebayor, whose season-long loan from the champions Manchester City has now ended, signed off with his fourth goal in three games as the Lilywhites beat Fulham 2-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

It was the 28-year-old’s 18th goal for Tottenham, in addition to 12 assists, and he feels that Spurs should be aiming to beat their fourth-placed finish next season.

“Before coming here they told me to help the team to finish in the top four, and I think that’s what I’ve done,” Adebayor told Spurs TV. “There were some games where I was unbelievable and fantastic, and there were some games where I was not myself.

“It’s always up and down in life and I’m very happy to be part of this team. I think we’ve finished fourth quite easily – although we could have done better.

“That was our target, to finish in the top four, so now next season I think we can start hoping to finish third, second or maybe try to win the league – why not?”

Adebayor’s future will be high on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s agenda this summer, as Spurs bid to secure the forward’s services for next season.

But, whatever happens, the Togo international says he has enjoyed every minute of his season at White Hart Lane.

“It’s an unbelievable league and I’m very happy and very pleased to be part of it,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of special moments in this league and some difficult moments as well, but as a footballer I have to stay positive, and we have to keep achieving what we can achieve.

“It was an unbelievable year. We played quite well, and we stayed third or fourth for quite a long time. We all know what happened from January onwards, but I think there are a lot of positives to take out of the season, and a big congratulations to all of the lads.”
