Essex have confirmed that Harbhajan Singh has returned to India following his spell with the club.

The India star was responding to The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) request to return to India for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 competition.

Harbhajan will join up with the India squad ahead of the tournament, which is held in Sri Lanka and starts on the 18th September.

Harbhajan Singh played 9 matches in the LV= County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40 competitions, taking 23 wickets for the county.

His best bowling figures for Essex were 5-37, which came against the Netherlands at Castle Park, Colchester.
