The England outcast served a timely reminder to the selectors about his quality
Former England bowler Sajid Mahmood hailed Surrey’s Kevin Pietersen after he scored 163 against Somerset.
The batsman, who faces an uncertain international future, only faced 168 balls, blasting 20 fours and three towering sixes.
“He [Pietersen] is a great player and made it look pretty easy out there. He is a class act and he got some very valuable runs, so to get his wicket at the end was good for us to finish off the innings.
“Sometimes the late order can hang around a little bit and it becomes frustrating for the bowling side, so to get ‘KP’ out on 160 was fantastic.
“He made it look easy out there and it seemed like he had all the time in the world. I know it’s a pretty slow deck, but he is different class.”
Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has been called into the England squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
