It’s not every day you get to take a dip in your school playground with two of Britain’s most successful swimmers.

Yet these lucky Devonshire Hill Primary School pupils got a private masterclass from former Olympic swimming champion Duncan Goodhew and six-time Commonwealth Games medalist Melanie Marshall after their playground was chosen as the venue for an innovative open-air swimming pool.

But the temporary pool is not just for the Wier Hall Road school pupils. A range of sessions designed to get the whole community involved throughout the summer will be available when it opens to the public on Saturday right through to September 6.

Mr Goodhew said: “I’m really excited to be in Tottenham at this fantastic temporary pool. It’s a really impressive facility which will make a big difference to the community.

“Swimming is an extremely important life skill to learn and it’s also great fun. I’d like to encourage everyone to come down to Devonshire Hill Primary School to enjoy the pool while it’s here.”

Sessions cost £2 and can be booked through Community Swimming on 0844 736 9047. Timetables are available at www.makeasplashlondon.org.
