Tottenham garage left ‘at mercy of local wildlife’

A Tottenham resident claims authorities left a garage opposite a playground to go to rack and ruin for 10 years, attracting foxes and vermin.
The resident, who did not wish to be named, says an employee at Haringey Council’s housing arm Homes for Haringey (HfH) told her that repairs to the garage in Stonebridge Road, South Tottenham, had first been requested in 2002.
She said: “The garage door has been off its hinges for two years and is lying on the pavement. Foxes and rats run over the top of the broken door and inside.
“I’m scared to walk past it; there’s all sorts of rubbish in there and you just don’t know what’s hiding inside.
“Foxes and rats run out in front onto the pavement. There’s a playground opposite and it would be easy for foxes to come out and attack the kids.”
After the Journal contacted HfH about the resident’s concerns, officers visited the garage on Monday.
But an HfH spokeswoman said it had no record of a 2002 request, adding: “The damage to the door was first reported to us in February this year. We apologise for the time it has taken for us to visit the property. We expect the new garage door to be fitted in a few weeks.”
