It’s not only the runners who keep coming back year after year – it is the volunteers too.
The Hornsey YMCA 10k and Children’s Fun Run could not go ahead without the team of volunteers who help organise and run the event.
It’s a team which includes Marcus Ballard, of Malvern Road, Crouch End - whose connections to the run go all the way back to the beginning.
“I ran the first run when it was very different,” said the 50-year-old, who has been a volunteer for 10 years. “It was a really great run, but I’m now just quite happy to be part of it. I think when you have run it you kind of want to keep it going,
“It is just such a big community event which draws from everyone – from mums and dads to children. It gets them into running in a fun way.”
An Olivier Award-winning actor who wowed London audiences as the autistic hero in The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time has become an ambassador for a Muswell Hill charity.
