The Victorian hospital site, in St Ann’s Road, South Tottenham, is to keep all of its current health provisions – including two mental health wards which at one point looked set to be moved to Chase Farm Hospital - but they will now be condensed onto just over a third of the 29-acre site.

The historic water tower and green corridor running along the south boundary will also be kept.

Meanwhile, the west of the site will be “green” housing – including affordable homes for social housing and rent, as well as family houses with private gardens and retail and community facilities.

Owners Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust hope the sale of the larger side of the site will allow it to upgrade the facilities as well as potentially add a new renal unit.

But, apart from these outline proposals, the rest of the detail is yet to be decided and the Trust hopes local residents will help it decide exactly what should happen to the space.

People will be able to air their views during an eight-week consultation, which began on Monday and runs until Friday, August 3.

Trust chief executive Maria Kane said: “The is not about changes to NHS services, it is to seek the views of local people about the redevelopment of the whole site.

“Every household in Haringey will receive a copy of the public consultation document and there are also several open events.”
