Haringey’s older residents are being offered practical support on staying healthy and keeping warm during the winter weather.

The council has teamed up with Age UK Haringey for this year’s Warm and Well campaign, which is using a £153,900 government grant to pay for extra staff to visit 200 pensioners to ensure they can help themselves and each other to stay healthy.

In addition, staff and volunteers will also be contacting a further 400 people aged over 60 to offer them a free home energy efficiency check and other home safety interventions.

Cllr Bernice Vanier, cabinet member for health and adult services, said: “There are many more people that could access support and advice that haven’t yet – either through isolation or through not perceiving themselves to have a critical need.

“We hope that anyone reading this will put themselves, or older relatives, friends and neighbours, in touch with the services on offer.”
