Frank Adams and June Clarke are two of the Torch Relay stars who have made a huge contribution to sport in Haringey over the years.
Frank, 68, has volunteered as a coach with Haringey Athletics Club, where both Daley Thompson and Seb Coe trained, for the past 30 years, and has been actively involved with the club since the 1960s.
A keen athlete himself, the retired stockbroker from Winchmore Hill coaches at the club twice a week and serves on the club’s committee.
Frank said: “I feel honoured to have been nominated and selected to carry the torch and remain excited at the prospect.
“Having attended three previous Olympics as a spectator I am thrilled to have this small part to play in the Games which are to be held so close to home.”
June Clarke, 50, of Amersham Avenue, Tottenham, will also take the Flame through Haringey. June began working as a volunteer at Tottenham Hotspur Ladies Football Club in 2001, progressing from kit-washer and chief sandwich-maker to manager of the reserve side as a qualified coach.
As club secretary and treasurer for its 13 teams, June’s dedication to women’s football goes further still, as she is also assistant secretary of the Greater London Women’s League.
She said: “I felt and do feel proud but at the same time I am really nervous. This will be something that my children and grandchildren can talk about, and my claim to fame.”
Thousands of people poured into Priory Park on Sunday for the 21st annual Crouch End Fun Run and Festival.
