England basketball star Jay-Ann Harriott, named player of the year in the under-16 team in 2011, had more to celebrate.

Jay-Ann still found time for her studies despite training five days a week, winning the national schools basketball finals in May with the Greig team and other national competitions with Haringey Angels.

She achieved four A*s, five As and a B and will stay on to do her A-levels at the school, aiming to head to the US for university to continue her basketball career.

Top student was Neal Bhavsar with seven A*s and three As. Neal, who is already planning to study science at university, said he was “really surprised but extremely happy” that he had done so well.

Morenike Ajidagda was the top girl, with five A*s and five As.

Olu Olakotan, the pupil progress manager who has followed the year group since they started, said: “If I could have designed a perfect year group it would be these students.”

He called them “wonderful people, enthusiastic, confident, creative, tenacious, humorous and determined.”

Principal Paul Sutton congratulated students and staff on the results, saying: “Parents and students can be proud of these results. Not everyone is capable of getting A*s in every subject but when students can say that they have done their best and achieved their potential, that is the most important thing.”

He added: “I look forward to seeing most of these students return to continue their studies in our sixth form. Last week one of our students got into Oxford University; one of these students could be next.”
