A Crouch End man has been forced to rely on the kindness of friends – and the local restaurant – after being left without water for an entire month.
Jean-Christophe Lanoe has been using the bathroom at nearby Chinese restaurant Dragon, doing his washing up at the Kiss The Sky bar and taking hot showers at a friend’s house since the pipe which fed water into his Park Road home burst on December 29.
While it has been a good opportunity to get to know his neighbours better, the situation has left Mr Lanoe feeling desperate as he waited for Homes for Haringey (HfH), which owns the freehold to his flat, to fix the problem.
HfH has been providing Mr Lanoe, 47, with fresh bottled water, and on Tuesday, contractors finally arrived – but it may be some time until he can shower in his own home once more, as Thames Water has to reconnect the pipe. But it will not change the last month, which Mr Lanoe, says has been almost unbearable.
“I have had to put on hold a lot of appointments. Getting things done is much, much tougher.
“I had to send my mother away when she came to visit from France – I sent her to my ex-wife’s. My children, they had to go because it is not as comfortable here.
“What I find so sad is it as if nobody cares. I first contacted the council on December 30th. I never got a call back [from the first call]. I have never had a kind word from anyone. It has been really horrible.”
A spokesman for HfH said: “Homes for Haringey has been working hard to restore the water to this home and are investigating the loss of supply.
“We have completed work to reinstate a new supply and are awaiting Thames Water to agree the works.
“We recognise the inconvenience this has caused and are working closely with the resident to ensure he has adequate support and supplies of fresh water.”
