The victim, a woman in her 30s, was knocked unconscious during the attack in Lordship Recreation Ground.

It is believed she met her attacker, described as a Turkish male in his early to mid 40s, earlier that evening in a club in the centre of Tottenham and he offered her a lift home.

At around 3am, the man drove the victim in a four-door dark coloured car to Lordship Rec.

He entered the park through the gates in Downhills Park Road and parked close to the wooded area situated near to the gates.

The victim managed to escape from the car but the suspect grabbed hold of her, slapped her around the face, ripped her clothing off and attempted to rape her.

He then hit her on the back of the head knocking her unconscious.

She remained unconscious until she was discovered by a passer-by in bushes beside a pathway at 7.20am.

Detectives believe her attacker may have been disturbed by a member of the public between 3am and 7.20am and are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to come forward.

Officers also wish to speak to the man who originally discovered the victim in the bushes.

He did not have a mobile phone on him but was able to alert a second member of the public who allowed them to use his phone to call police.

He left the scene before officers were able to speak to him.

Anyone else with any information that could help the investigation are asked to call police on 020 8345 4512 or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
