A man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a 91-year-old grandmother and leaving her lying injured on a Highgate pavement within hours of these horrific pictures being released yesterday.
These pictures show the horrendous injuries Lynne, 91, was left with after she was attacked in a Highgate street.Police arrested a 49-year-old man on Thursday evening, not long after the heartbreaking photos of Highgate resident Lynne Elmer-Laird’s injuries were released by her family.
The grandmother had been making her way home from the shops in Archway Road along Church Road when she felt a tug on her handbag at about 1.30pm on Tuesday, August 14.
Mrs Elmer-Laird turned and noticed a hand in her bag, but when she tried to pull away she was pushed, making her fall to the ground. As she fell, she smashed her head on both a wall and the pavement.
The man then ran off with her purse, which had just her bank card, travel pass and £20 inside it, leaving her lying on the pavement near the junction with Talbot Road.
Keen churchgoer Mrs Elmer-Laird - a regular contributer to her parish magazine - suffered severe bruising and swelling to her face, neck, shoulder, leg and a broken arm. She is currently still in hospital, after undergoing surgery.
The arrested man remains in custody at a north London police station.
- Anyone with information or that recognises the man pictured is asked to contact PC Paul Hallas of Haringey CID on 020 8345 0872, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A Crouch End pub is being hauled before Haringey’s licensing committee on Tuesday over fears for public safety – but the licensee says its just a case of the police being “heavy-handed”.
