Detectives have released CCTV images of three men they wish to speak to in relation to the incident, which took place in Bruce Castle Park, Tottenham, at about 1pm on July 2.

Around half an hour before the robbery, the 59-year-old victim visited a bank in High Road where he withdrew £5000 in cash as a wedding gift for his daughter.

He then headed for The Roundway and cut through Bruce Castle Park, where he realised he was being followed.

Near the junction with Fryatt Road, the victim turned to confront the man following him and was knocked unconscious.

When he regained consciousness he made his way home and discovered that his money and phone had been taken.

Paramedics were called and he was taken to North Middlesex Hospital with head injuries and discharged the same day.

Investigating officer, Det Con Stephen Bent, said: “This was a cowardly attack on a grandfather who had worked hard to save this money as a gift for his family. Someone in the community must know who carried this out.

“It was a nice day that day, it wasn’t raining and at 1pm on a Monday in The Roundaway, there would have been a fair amount of traffic going through, both on foot and in cars and buses.”

The suspect is described as a white man aged 30 to 35 years, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 9in tall, of stocky build, with short brown hair and wearing a black jacket.

One of the men was later seen with a young girl who had black hair and was wearing a lilac top and pale green or white three-quarter leggings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Stephen Bent of Haringey CID on 020 8345 0885 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
