Security has been stepped up at Bruce Castle Museum after thieves stole lead from its roof twice in less than 10 days.
Reports of lead theft from the museum, in Lordship Lane, Tottenham, were made to police earlier this month.
A Haringey police spokesman estimated the cost of replacing the lead stood at about £3,000.
The council has now introduced overnight dog patrols around the museum and further measures are being considered.
A Haringey Council spokesman said: “The thieves were well organised but left a number of items at the site that were removed by the police as part of their investigation.
“This type of theft is thoughtless and ultimately costs society through increasing insurance premiums.
“Residents should report anything suspicious at Bruce Castle, or other sites, to the council or the police.”
