Lynne Featherstone’s campaigning on gay marriage rights melted so many hearts at ice cream makers Ben & Jerry’s that she scooped their top accolade - and had a flavour invented for her.

The Hornsey and Wood Green MP tasted sweet success after the firm picked up on her work championing gay marriage rights in her role as Equalities Minister.

Dubbed Lynne Honeycomb, a sample tub turned up in the MP’s Hornsey High Street office recently, complete with the slogan: “Everyone deserves to live apple-y ever after.”

It is not the first time the pun-loving ice cream giants have created a special flavour for a famous face - the local MP is in good company with Barack Obama, whose 2008 inauguration was marked with tubs of Yes Pecan!

Unfortunately though, it appears the new flavour will not be available in your local supermarket - but that has not stopped it delighting Ms Featherstone.

She said: “I have always been a fan of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and here’s one more reason to love them. It is great to have their support for equal marriage.”
