A Level results: Highgate Wood School students get 78 per cent A*-C

Students and staff are celebrating at Highgate Wood School in Crouch End this morning as the A Level results start to come in. Almost eight out of 10 A Level grades achieved there were at A*-C.

Just under half the sixth form students received an A*, A or B grade.

Nick Charlesworth, head of sixth form at the school in Montenotte Road, said: “Students and staff worked incredibly hard for these results and it is nice to see such hard work rewarded.

“Students winning places this year are a real inspiration to the whole school and will be invited back to Highgate Wood to share their experiences and motivate younger students to follow in their footsteps.”

Among the success stories today are Ben Terrington, who has a fantastic year ahead as he plans to travel in Africa before taking his place at Bristol University to study Zoology.

Ben, of Regina Road, Stroud Green, will visit Kalahari to study meerkats and work on a project tracking wild dogs.

To win his place Ben achieved grades A in biology, A in maths and A in history.

He said: “I’m feeling pretty good, I wasn’t expecting three As!”

Georgia Tobin will move to Manchester for her history degree having achieved grades A*, A* and A in history, English literature and French.

She will study alongside Millie Aylott Harvey who gained an A* in history with a score of more than 95 per cent. Millie also hit the hot A* grade in English literature, and got an A in art.

Alice Dore looks forward to an exciting future with her degree in biological sciences that includes a year studying at a top American university. Alice gained an A in maths and psychology with a B in biology to win the place at the University of East Anglia.

Dylan Noone looks forward to a possible career in pharmaceuticals with his degree in biochemistry. Dylan hit grades A in chemistry, biology and maths with a B grade in music technology. He starts at Bristol University in the autumn.

Meanwhile, the future of travel is the chosen destination of Tom Andrews and Tom Fairclough. Both have undergraduate places to study engineering in the form of aeronautical science at Liverpool and automotive engineering at Loughborogh respectively.

Headteacher Patrick Cozier said he was pleased with the results for the school, and equally excited by “the wide range of degree options students look forward to, indicating challenging and exciting futures”.

He added: “We are certainly proud of them all and wish them well.

“For those students who have missed the grades they had hoped for we have a dedicated clearing advisor in school to help those who need it get into the clearing system. The much publicised rise in university tuition fees means that students should very carefully consider their options and specialist advice should give all those that need it the best chance of finding the right course for their future plans.”
